Girl Scouts

My niece is a Junior in the local Girl Scout troop. Their troop leader is awesome and plans all kinds of activities for the girls. I wanted to participate in some of those activities so I had to sign up as an adult volunteer which in turn means I'm now an adult girl scout.

I can't believe the troop is about to place its first order of cookies. They are doing it a bit differently this year. The first change is that cookies will be $4 a box this year. Gee, when I was a girl scout it was $2 a box and I seem to remember there being more cookies. Maybe it's my imagination, or maybe it's because when you're a kid everything seems bigger.

They are also not taking pre-orders this year. Each girl scout is placing an order for however many boxes of cookies they think they can sell, and then go to it. They will have all the cookies on hand when going door to door or however they choose to do it.

I don't know how the other troops do it, but ours uses the money they earn to pay for an end of year trip that they take in June. I think this year they are leaning towards a trip to Galveston. I think I became a volunteer at just the right time because that trip sounds right up my alley. I don't think G and I will be taking a week long vacation together next year so this may be it for me.

I can't wait to see what adventures I will get to have with the Girl Scouts.
